Winki Pop Stair Replacement

Well it looks like the Winki Pop stairs are going to be replaced sometime between now and Christmas. Check the following correspondence from ‘Bells Beach Recreational Reserve Advisory Committee’ member Leanne Lucas:
“I met with the successful contractor on site yesterday to look at the Winki Pop Stair Replacement and can confirm the following:
* Construction of the new stairs will be roughly on the same alignment as the existing stairs;
* Construction will commence on the 16th November 2009 – with a maximum construction period of 6 weeks (to allow for any delays which may occur through poor weather etc). This does not mean that it will take the full six weeks and it should be noted that the contractor is committed to completing the works as quickly as possible;
* Construction will commence from the bottom of the stairs up to the top where it meets the concrete path – this allows for any on site variations in the existing ground level to be accommodated during the construction which may not have been apparent in the design phase;
* Signage is to be placed on site in the form of A3 laminated notice sheets at both Winki Pop and Bells. They will be located at both the top and bottom of Winki and should go out next week sometime.
* There will also be notices in the local media regarding the stair’s replacement and closure periods;
* Access to Winki Pop will be opened each weekend during the construction period with the stairs being made safe and inspected by a Council Officer prior to them being allowed to be opened for use;
* The contractor will be allocated 2 No. Car spaces at Winki for storage of materials during the construction phase. This will be suitably fenced off for safety reasons;
* In the event of a major swell event during the week an assessment will be made as to the possibility of opening the stairs to allow access, but safety is the key issue in any decision making process relating to this;”
Good news and bad news I guess – you make up your mind, but be prepared.
