On Australia Day 2010 Torquay Boardriders Club inducted 2 new life members – Geoff Tarr and Colin Edgar. Significant contributions by these members to TBC culture, history and administration were celebrated on Australia Day in a small but significant ceremony. Beers were drunk and stories were told. Welcome to the inner sanctum guys.

TBC Annual Single Fin Extravaganza

The Torquay Boardriders Club Single Fin Extravaganza will be on again this coming Australia Day (26th January for this who don’t but should know). This is one of our most popular events and is a great way to kick off the 2010 season. Details are:
Location: Jan Juc Beach
Date/Time: 26/01/2010 @ 8:00am for an 8:30am start
Equipment: Single Fin sans legrope (and no recent shaped models, they must be true retro)
Membership: Grab a membership form from the link on the right of screen, print it out and bring it along (with ya $$$)
We encourage all past, present and future members to head down to Jan Juc and join in the fun. Don’t worry if you don’t have a single fin handy as there will be plenty available on the day. See you all there. Any questions please post to info@torquayboardriders.com
2009 Presentations

As you can see, our man Gazz is PUMPED about the TBC end of year presentations. We’ve booked a venue, ordered the food (at least we’ve started this, we need people to let us know if they are coming), bought the drink and organised the band. All we need now is for all our members to turn up and party. The details are as follows:
Venue: Bellbrae Winery, near the roundabout in Bellbrae (on the Great Ocean Road)
Date: Saturday 12th December
Time: 3pm to 8pm
Feel free to leave your car at the winery as we will be running a bus back to Torquay/Jan Juc during the night (a couple of trips at set times). Cost is $20 for Adults and $10 kids under 16. That covers food, drink and entertainment for the entire evening. So come along and help celebrate another successful TBC season.

Don’t forget, kids must be accompanied by a responsible adult (we think there maybe one or two within the club).
Aggregate 6 Complete

On Saturday 7th of November we were finally able to put 2009 to rest and complete the 6th and final aggregate of the season. A pulsing 3+ft swell, super warm weather and plenty of beach activity greeted members who signed up at 7:30am. With more hands on deck than we’ve seen all year, the contest tents and infrastructure were set-up is record time. Heats from u13 girls and boys all the way through to grand masters were held with the finals rolling out late in the day. TBC members toasted a great (although a surf-wise frustrating) year with a couple of responsible beers with the presentations being held in the Jan Juc carpark following the completion of the Open final.
All results will be held off until the 2009 presentations – of which will be held on the evening of the 12th December (more info to come shortly). Photos will be up shortly, with the exception of the one above of Johnny Robertson taken during the open final.
Don’t forget, keep Saturday 12th of December free for the TBC end of year celebrations.
Mundaka of its nah-nah

Winki Pop Stair Replacement

Aggregate 5 Locked Away & Results Posted

After a false start on Saturday (absolutely atrocious conditions forced the call to be made to surf on Sunday) we successfully ran Aggregate 5 in pretty fun (but seriously deteriorating) Jan Juc. Heats were held in contestable easterly swell conditions for the entire morning and everyone was positive on an incoming tide afternoon and (fingers crossed) an increase in the swell. Sadly both were wrong – the swell died and the wind ruined it. That said, we powered on and got through the day.
After a long and cold winter it was great to see everyone enjoying the sunshine – and considering the weather that has been dealt to us this year for our aggregates, it was nice to see mother nature smile down on us. Next time hopefully some swell will accompany it.

Surf Fest Time Again

Well it’s that time of the year again when you get a team of three together, grab the retro, longboard and shorty and enter Surf Fest. This event, which has been run by the students at Oberon High School for a few years now, looks to be bigger and better than ever in 2009. TBC is stoked to be involved again this year and encourages all members to get a team together and get amongst it.

Agg 5 and 6 Dates Announced

Well the TBC committee has got together and danced around all the happenings over the next couple of months and locked in some dates for aggregates 5 and 6. Fingers crossed that the wave action can continue for us in the later stages of 2009 and that we can complete this years aggregate without any hassle.
The dates are as follows:
Aggregate 5 – 10 October 2009 with Sunday the 11th and the following weekend (17 & 18th October) as back-up
Aggregate 6 - 7 November 2009
Lock these dates in your diaries and we’ll see you then.
